Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid said Islamic boarding schools have a crucial role to play at the forefront of protecting Indonesian children from the threat of cybercrime.
He explained that one of the real cybersecurity threats identified by the National Counterterrorism Agency and targeting Indonesian children is the instillation of radicalism through the camouflage of online games.
"Children are being targeted. This is no longer a hypothetical threat, but a danger that is already happening before our eyes. Islamic boarding schools must be the strong frontline in protecting the younger generation," said Meutya during a working visit to the Qomarul Huda Islamic Boarding School in Central Lombok.
Islamic boarding schools play a role as government collaborators, not only explaining the real threats in the digital space but also teaching the wise use of digital technology so that the nation's next generation can benefit from the positive impacts of rapid technological developments.
