Men's singles player Jonatan Christie became the first Indonesian representative to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Malaysia Masters after defeating Taiwanese athlete Wang Po Wei at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur.
Jonatan had to work hard for 1 hour and 6 minutes before defeating Wang with 21-16, 19-21, 21-13.
The world number five badminton player appeared confident from the start. Having trailed 1-2, Jonatan immediately took control with five consecutive points to lead 6-2.
Jonatan's dominance continued into the first half. Although Wang pressed and reduced the deficit to 12-11, Jojo regained his rhythm and secured the opening game 21-16.
In the second game, Jonatan remained in control. Several long rallies forced Wang to simply follow the pattern.
However, a series of unforced errors changed the momentum. After leading 11-7 at halftime, Jonatan lost consistency, allowing Wang to level the score at 13-13.
