A computer outage affecting Microsoft services is impacting airports, banking systems, hospitals, media outlets, and other businesses worldwide this Friday.
Information provided by the DownDetector website reveals a worrying trend with reported outages across several major services, including Visa, ADT Security, Amazon, and airlines.
In the United States, American Airlines, Delta, and Allegiant were all grounded. The low-cost carrier Ryanair informed its customers via X. Similar problems were reported at Australian airports, where queues grew longer. Some passengers found themselves stranded due to the deactivation of online check-in and self-service check-in booths.
While awaiting further information on the details of this global outage, Microsoft acknowledges the incident, which it attributes to a software update. To reassure its customers, the tech company says it is implementing numerous mitigation measures.
In South Africa, the computer outage was felt by at least one major bank whose customers are no longer able to make purchases with their bank cards in grocery stores and petrol stations.
