Nigeria: Running for a second term, Tinubu defends his economic record

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, 74, has accepted without reservation his nomination as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party.

Officially nominated as the party's candidate for the 2027 presidential election during a ceremony in Abuja, the capital, the head of state used his acceptance speech to vigorously defend his administration's controversial economic reforms.

"Many Nigerians are still facing rising costs and economic adjustment; we do not minimize these concerns. We understand them and we govern not in comfort, but in reality, with honesty and action ," said Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Because while the reforms undertaken by President Tinubu are welcomed by investors, inflation and the rising cost of living continue to weigh heavily on Nigerians.

"We are not made for easy paths, we want to move fast, bring prosperity and a better life to our children who are not yet born. We are paying the price for that today," said the Nigerian president.

The president explicitly targeted opposition political factions, accusing them of trying to exploit temporary economic difficulties without proposing a coherent macroeconomic plan.
