Nine countries summoned Israeli ambassadors to protest the mistreatment of "Steadfastness Flotilla" detainees following a video by Ben-Gvir

The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation said that the countries that summoned Israel’s representatives are: New Zealand, Canada, Belgium, France, Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands, Spain, and Australia, noting that their number rose to 9 countries within two days, after 7 countries had previously taken the same action.

These diplomatic moves came after the Israeli occupation army intercepted dozens of boats belonging to the "Global Steadfastness Flotilla," which were carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and activists from 44 countries were detained while in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea.

In a related context, the European Union said that the treatment shown to the detainees in the video was "completely unacceptable," calling for them to be treated with dignity in accordance with international law, and for the immediate release of all activists, including European citizens.

For his part, the US ambassador to Tel Aviv, Mike Huckabee, said that what Ben-Gvir said was "a disgraceful act," considering that what happened does not represent the official Israeli position, in an attempt to mitigate international criticism.

In contrast, the Arab human rights center “Adalah” in Israel documented testimonies of detainees being subjected to physical and psychological abuse, including electric shocks, fractures and insults, in addition to what it described as sexual humiliation during detention and transfer.

Amnesty International said the interception of the flotilla was a "shameful and inhumane act," amid mounting human rights and international condemnation.

According to the flotilla organizers, the Israeli occupation army intervened against all of its approximately 50 boats, carrying 428 activists from 44 countries, including 78 Turkish citizens.

Israel has previously seized aid boats in international waters bound for Gaza on several occasions, some belonging to the Freedom Flotilla campaigns, and detained the activists before later deporting them.

Approximately 2.4 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are suffering from catastrophic humanitarian conditions, exacerbated by the Israeli war of extermination since October 2023, which has left more than 72,000 martyrs and more than 172,000 wounded Palestinians, most of whom are children and women.

Despite the ceasefire agreement announced on October 10, 2025, Israel continues its genocide by restricting the entry of humanitarian aid, medicines and medical supplies, in addition to daily bombings that killed 881 Palestinians and injured 2,621, most of them children and women.

In 1948, Israel was established on lands occupied by armed Zionist gangs who committed massacres and displaced at least 750,000 Palestinians. Tel Aviv refuses to withdraw and allow the establishment of the Palestinian state stipulated in UN resolutions.
