Senior chess player GM Novendra Priasmoro (2408) topped the temporary standings in the 2026 JAPFA FIDE Rated Open category.
Novendra is at the top of the standings after securing a crucial victory in the fifth round, namely overcoming tough resistance from Stevanky (2205) in a match that lasted 65 moves.
This victory puts Novendra at the top of the standings with 4.5 points, the result of four wins and one draw. He shares the top spot with IM Muhamad Lutfi Ali (2340), who also has 4.5 points.
"The match was tough, he played well. We were going back and forth (between positions) and almost drew because there were only three minutes left," Novendra said regarding the fifth round match, as reported by PB Percasi.
Next, Novendra will face a tough match in the sixth round against his old rival since childhood, IM Lutfi Ali.
