OpenAI is reportedly exploring the development of artificial intelligence ( AI) agent-based smartphone devices .

Technology publication Gizmochina on Thursday (30/4) quoted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo's claim that the "AI agent phone" was designed without requiring application support like most phones currently marketed.

The phone's built-in AI agent will be able to perform a wide range of tasks based on user commands.

With this concept, users no longer need to switch applications to complete tasks or needs.

So, instead of opening the calendar, checking messages, and switching from one app to another to plan something, users just need to ask.

The AI system will respond by accessing the right information, suggesting options, and even completing actions if necessary.

The use of such methods is considered to be able to bring about a major shift from the current application-based mobile phone model.

Similar efforts have been made before, though in a much more limited way. Rabbit R1 attempted to reduce reliance on apps.

However, the efforts being undertaken by OpenAI are said to be more ambitious, bringing the idea to smartphones rather than companion devices.
