The Indonesian Fishermen's Association expressed its appreciation for President Prabowo Subianto's commitment to improving the welfare of fishermen during his speech at the Plenary Session of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, which included the presentation of the Macroeconomic Framework and Fiscal Policy Principles.
HNSI Secretary General Lydia Assegaf said Prabowo's plan to build various supporting facilities for the fisheries and maritime sector, including ice factories, cold storage , fish processing units, and ship docking facilities , is necessary to strengthen the productivity and competitiveness of Indonesian fishermen.
"We, on behalf of fishermen throughout Indonesia, appreciate President Prabowo's commitment and seriousness in efforts to improve the welfare of Indonesian fishermen," Lydia said.
He also expressed his full support for the Red and White Fishermen's Village program, which is currently under construction in various regions of Indonesia.
According to him, the program is expected to become a center for strengthening the economy of coastal communities while simultaneously encouraging a sustainable improvement in the quality of life of fishermen and their families.
To that end, he hopes that the various programs announced by the President can be immediately implemented optimally and on target so that they have a real impact on improving the welfare of fishermen throughout Indonesia.
"This program is a strategic step to strengthen the maritime sector and improve the welfare of fishing communities," he said.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto in his speech at the Plenary Session of the Indonesian House of Representatives touched on the problem of fishermen who were still having difficulty obtaining ice and diesel fuel for going out to sea.
Therefore, the government will intervene by developing 5,000 fishing villages over the next three years. This year, the government targets the inauguration of 1,386 fishing villages
The government will also build ice-making installations, cold storage , and special gas stations for fishermen in every fishing village.
