Andreas Hugo Pareira, Head of the Membership and Organization Division of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), expressed his gratitude to President Prabowo Subianto for praising his party during his speech at the Plenary Session of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).
He stated that the PDIP, now outside the government, continues to carry out its role of conveying positive criticism. He believes this criticism is necessary to provide the government with a different perspective on the current situation.
"Yes, thank you, Mr. President, for your praise. Indeed, the PDI-P should be outside (the government)," said Andreas at the parliamentary complex.
The Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) stated that although the President felt sad, the criticism was necessary so he could hear the views of the PDIP. According to him, the criticism conveyed was not merely a matter of feelings, but also a matter of rationality in viewing a situation.
"The criticisms are of course well-intentioned, and that's what we've been doing all along," he said.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto in his speech at the Plenary Session of the Indonesian House of Representatives, expressed his gratitude to the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle for currently being the only party in parliament that is outside the government.
According to Prabowo, PDIP has played a role in maintaining democracy in Indonesia, because the opposition ensures checks and balances, especially against the executive institutions that run the government.
"Not all parties here are part of the government, and I respect that, I appreciate that, our democracy needs checks and balances , I understand and comprehend, PDIP sacrificed to be outside the government, I understand that, actually, I want to express my gratitude to PDIP. You have done a service for our democracy," said President Prabowo before more than 400 members of the Indonesian House of Representatives and a number of state officials during the DPR RI Plenary Session at the Nusantara Building, MPR, DPR, DPD RI Complex.
