The National Police Chief encourages athlete development and regional economic development through the 2026 Judo Cup

 


  Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo is encouraging the development of young athletes and strengthening the regional economy through the holding of the 2026 National Police Chief's Cup Judo Championship at the Segiri Sports Hall, Samarinda, East Kalimantan.

At the opening of the championship on Monday, the National Police Chief emphasized the importance of upholding the values ​​of sportsmanship while utilizing sporting events as a means of preparing resilient human resources to face future challenges.

"On the one hand, it also revitalizes the regional economy, and we also instill the values ​​of discipline, enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and fair play ," Sigit said in a statement.

According to him, the judo championship is not only intended for members of the Indonesian National Police, but is also open to the general public to expand opportunities for the birth of new athletes from various regions.

Sigit said that national sports competitions need to be utilized to strengthen the regeneration of athletes who can be prepared for national and international championships.

"Our hope is to acquire new talents who can then be prepared to support programs related to judo championship events , both national and international," he said.

The National Police Chief believes that collaboration between the National Police, the Indonesian Judo Association, local governments, and the community is crucial for building a sustainable sports ecosystem.

In addition to athlete development, he also encouraged the involvement of micro, small, and medium enterprises  in national sports activities to provide an economic impact for the surrounding community.

"This is a form of collaboration between the National Police, the Indonesian Sports Association (PJSI), the community, and local governments to support sports programs," he said.

According to Sigit, strengthening the sports sector can also be a means of building the character of the younger generation by instilling discipline, a spirit of healthy competition, and the ability to work hard.

He hopes that similar activities will continue to be expanded as part of efforts to create superior human resources while simultaneously driving the regional economy based on sports activities.
