The UAE Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that investigations have proven that the drones that targeted the Barakah nuclear power plant “were coming from Iraqi territory.”
On Sunday, the Abu Dhabi Media Office announced that the competent authorities dealt with a fire that broke out in an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah station in the Al Dhafra region, indicating that it resulted from a drone attack (whose source was not identified).
Earlier the Iranian news agency Tasnim quoted an unnamed military source as saying that the drone attack on the UAE was carried out by Israelis, referring to the targeting of the Barakah nuclear power plant.
Following this, the UAE Ministry of Defense stated in a statement that “as part of completing the investigations related to the blatant attack on the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant on May 17, 2026, the results of the technical tracking and monitoring confirmed that the three drones, two of which were successfully dealt with, while the third hit an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the plant on that date, in addition to the drones that were intercepted later, all came from Iraqi territory.”
For its part, the Iraqi government, in a statement issued by its spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi on Tuesday, condemned the drone attacks that targeted the UAE, stressing its keenness to “maintain the distinguished fraternal relations and productive partnership with the UAE,” and its full support for efforts to extend security and stability in the region.
Al-Awadi also affirmed Iraq’s firm and historical position regarding the distinguished and sustainable relations between the brotherly and friendly countries of the region, and its keenness on the security of Arab countries, and the importance of supporting stability and all efforts to reduce tension, and preventing attacks, whatever their source, according to a statement.
The statement added , “The Iraqi government condemns the recent drone attacks targeting the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and affirms its continued joint efforts to enhance regional security and preserve the security and sovereignty of the countries of the region.”
He added that although the competent Iraqi military authorities “did not detect any specific information regarding Iraqi airspace, the competent Iraqi institutions are fully prepared to cooperate in order to verify any information related to the circumstances of the attack that targeted the Kingdom.”
In this regard, Iraq reiterated its categorical rejection of the use of its land, airspace and territorial waters to launch any aggression against neighboring countries. The Iraqi security forces have taken all necessary steps and measures to thwart and uncover any attempt that may be committed in this context, and there will be no leniency with anyone who tries to break the sovereignty of the Iraqi state, or harms relations with the Kingdom or neighboring and brotherly countries.
