England national team coach Thomas Tuchel said his squad selection for the 2026 World Cup was correct, despite receiving many questions from Three Lions supporters.
Quoted from the official England national team website on Saturday, Tuchel said his selection of players was based on their contributions during the qualifying period.
The German coach continued that the 26 players called up have extraordinary cohesion and could have a positive impact on the 2026 World Cup finals.
"Everything I know and hear about international football is about teamwork and unity. What we want to achieve this summer can only be achieved as a team. Hopefully, we will have a long time together and that we will always be together," said Tuchel.
Tuchel continued his considerations in selecting players not only based on technical ability, but also on non-technical factors outside the game.
"A lot of consideration was put into these 'soft' factors to build the right cohesion. It's important for each player to know their role, and we've selected a very balanced squad," he said.
When calling up England's 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup, Tuchel decided not to include several players who had performed brilliantly for the club throughout the season.
Names such as Phil Foden Cole Palmer , Trent Alexander-Arnold Harry Maguire and Morgan Gibbs-White were not included in the 26.
Tuchel admitted leaving out those names was a difficult decision, but he assured that all the players he called up were choices he had to make.
"The best group doesn't always consist of the 26 most talented players. The group and the team will always be the main focus, and I hope we've done that in selecting this group. That's the thinking behind it," Tuchel said.
