Türkiye demands immediate measures to halt Israeli settlement activity and fully implement the plan to end the Gaza war

This came in a statement delivered by Yildiz, in his capacity as head of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation group at the UN Security Council, during an Arria-formula meeting to discuss developments in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.

The "Arria-formula" sessions are informal meetings of the Security Council, and no resolutions or statements are issued in the name of the Council.

Yildiz noted that "Israel's ongoing attacks against the Palestinian people, their rights, land, security, and dignity" necessitate urgent action. He reiterated the Security Council resolutions and other UN resolutions that guarantee the rights of the Palestinian people in the face of occupation and settlement activity.

He said: "We condemn all settlement activities, including the seizure and demolition of Palestinian homes and the displacement of Palestinian families. These illegal actions must be stopped."

The Turkish delegate also expressed his condemnation of Israeli practices in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, pointing to the expansion of settlements, annexation plans, and "settler terrorism," in addition to violations targeting Islamic and Christian holy sites, most notably the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The West Bank, including East Jerusalem, is witnessing an escalation in Israeli violations, including raids, arrests, shootings and excessive use of force, in parallel with increasing attacks by settlers against Palestinians and their property.

Since October 2023, attacks by the Israeli occupation army and settlers have resulted in the martyrdom of at least 1,155 Palestinians, the injury of about 11,750 others, and the arrest of nearly 22,000, according to official Palestinian data.

Yildiz called on the Security Council to respond to the international call to accept the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations, based on the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, considering that this step would contribute to “resolving a historical injustice in a just and peaceful manner.”

He also called, on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, for monitoring the ceasefire in Gaza, stating that Israel violates it daily. He stressed the need for the precise implementation of a comprehensive plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that the Palestinian cause "constitutes a single, indivisible unit."

On September 29, 2025, US President Donald Trump announced a plan to end the Israeli genocide in Gaza, the first phase of which includes a partial Israeli withdrawal, the release of the remaining Israeli prisoners in the sector, and the entry of 600 aid trucks.

While Hamas adhered to the first phase by releasing the Israeli prisoners, Israel reneged on its relief commitments and continued its attacks, resulting in the martyrdom of 846 Palestinians and the injury of 2,418 others.

An agreement was reached two years after a genocide that began with Israel on October 8, 2023, with American support, and continued later in various forms, leaving more than 72,000 martyrs and more than 172,000 injured Palestinians, and massive destruction affecting 90% of the civilian infrastructure.
