USA: Lunar meteorite discovered in Mali put up for auction

This slice of lunar meteorite, weighing approximately 2,005.9 grams and measuring 8 millimeters thick, was discovered in 2019 in the Tisselit Valley, Mali. After its discovery, the meteorite was divided into seven slices by scientists, and this piece is one of them.

It stands out as the second largest polished slice of lunar meteorite in the world. Scientific analysis has confirmed that this lunar meteorite is a breccia, characterized by an assemblage of rock fragments, glass shards, and glass spherules originating from the lunar soil near the surface.

This rare fragment, not only because of its weight and size, but also because of its lunar origin, is of inestimable value to collectors and researchers.

In addition to the lunar meteorite, Christie's also auctioned a scientific manuscript by Einstein on the first-order approximation field equation, as well as a musical manuscript by Mozart concerning the fourth movement of the Serenade in D major. These historical pieces were accompanied by works from renowned artists, including Zao Wou-Ki, Yoshitomo Nara, Yayoi Kusama, and Chen Yifei.

The sale offers an exceptional collection, combining science, classical music and contemporary art, thus attracting collectors from various fields.

A recent industry report reveals that Chinese collectors are now the largest group of buyers in the global auction market, surpassing their British counterparts. This rise reflects China's growing interest in art and collectibles.

Christie's data also indicates that in the first half of this year, China led the world in terms of the number of new buyers.
