Who should avoid eating pastries?

Endocrinologist and nutritionist Dr. Anton Polyakov debunked the common myth about the safety of cakes made from flour, and explained why almost everyone should avoid these pastries.

He says: "People with obesity, diabetes, and digestive problems should avoid these products altogether. I do not advise anyone, even a relatively healthy person, to eat these foods except in cases of extreme necessity."

According to him, the main danger of ready-made pastries lies in their high-quality wheat flour, vegetable shortening, sugar, and flavorings. This combination leads to a sharp rise in blood sugar levels, posing a direct threat to diabetics. In the case of obesity, excess simple carbohydrates are quickly converted into stored fat, further exacerbating the problem.

For people with gastritis, pancreatitis, or irritable bowel syndrome, pastries cause fermentation, bloating, and pain, and the thermoloving yeast and trans fats exacerbate inflammation of the digestive tract.

The expert points out that even those without these conditions are at risk of experiencing "carbohydrate withdrawal," where hunger returns quickly after eating a piece of candy, leading to overeating and the development of unhealthy eating habits. For this reason, it is recommended to eliminate flour cakes from the daily diet and limit their consumption to rare occasions.
