Romano Schmid opened the scoring for Austria in the 20th minute with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, before Jordan managed to equalize through Ali Alwan in the 50th minute after an organized counter-attack led by Nour Al-Rawabdeh.

In the 76th minute, Jordan scored an own goal by Yazan Al-Arab , giving Austria the advantage again, before Marko Arnautovic decided the match in stoppage time (90+12) from a penalty kick.

With this victory, the Austrian national team earned its first three points in the tournament, while the Jordanian national team continued its first World Cup appearance with a competitive performance despite the loss.
