Apple has raised prices on several Mac computer models and iPad tablets due to higher costs for memory chips and storage, US media.
In a statement cited by several media reports, Apple said it had never experienced such a large increase in component prices in such a short period of time.
The company said it has been absorbing these higher costs to protect customers, but has now reached a point where it needs to raise prices on some products, including Macs and iPads.
A pricing update on Apple's US website shows that the starting price of the MacBook Neo has increased from US$599 (US$1 = Rp17,942) to US$699. The 13-inch MacBook Air with 512 gigabytes (GB) of storage now starts at US$1,299, up from US$1,099.
For iPads, the starting price of the 11-inch iPad Air with Wi-Fi and 128GB of storage has increased from $599 to $749. The 11-inch iPad Pro with Wi-Fi and 256GB of storage now starts at $1,199, up from $999.
This latest price adjustment does not impact the iPhone.
The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers in recent years has driven demand for high-bandwidth memory and other chips, leading to a shortage in the supply of memory and storage components used in consumer electronics.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said in April the company expects memory costs to rise significantly in the fiscal third quarter ending June 27, adding that the high memory costs will have a greater impact on its business after the June quarter.
