The Austrian national team is currently in second place in Group J of the 2026 World Cup after defeating Jordan 3-1 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, United States, on Wednesday, WIB.
According to FIFA, Austria now has three points in the standings, level with top-placed Argentina. Argentina leads the way thanks to their 3-0 win over Algeria earlier in the day, while Jordan sits in third place, followed by Algeria at the bottom.
Austria and Jordan played at a high tempo from the start. Jordan, making their historic World Cup debut, appeared fearless and threatened in the second minute with a shot from captain Ehsan Haddad that hit the side netting.
Austria then began to take control of the game, but Jordan remained dangerous with swift counter-attacks led by Mousa Al-Tamari. Jordan's best early chance came in the 17th minute, but goalkeeper Alexander Schlager made a brilliant save to keep the goal safe.
