Bosnia and Herzegovina national team coach Sergej Barbarez stressed that his team has not given up in the hunt for a ticket to the knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup despite suffering a crushing 1-4 defeat to Switzerland in their second Group B match on Friday.
"We still have our third match to play, and nothing is lost yet. We have to win it, of course, if we want to go further. This defeat is very tough for us, but I don't like to complain," Barbarez said via the FIFA website after the match.
The defeat leaves Bosnia in a difficult position with a collection of one point from two matches.
They now need to beat Qatar in their final Group B match to keep their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages alive.
Bosnia actually put up a fierce fight. They managed to maintain the scoreline until the 74th minute before Swiss substitute Johan Manzambi broke the deadlock just three minutes after coming on.
Barbarez felt his team had performed better before the hydration break midway through the second half. Bosnia created several dangerous chances despite Switzerland having more possession.
