Dr. Ranjan Chatterjee explained that this condition may be exacerbated by eating lunches that lack protein and fiber, leading to fluctuations in glucose levels and causing fatigue, mental confusion, and poor concentration.

He pointed out that many people resort to caffeine or sugary foods to get a quick boost of energy, but this solution may lead to a temporary rise in glucose levels followed by a new drop, keeping the body in a recurring cycle of fatigue and intense cravings for sugars.

He explained that a sharp drop in glucose levels prompts the body to send urgent signals to restore energy, which increases cravings for sugary and carbohydrate-rich foods. This drop also affects brain function, as the brain relies on glucose as its primary energy source, impacting concentration and cognitive abilities.

Chatterjee confirmed that feeling lethargic at 3 pm is partly related to the body's natural biological rhythm, but that a disturbance in glucose levels can significantly increase the severity of this condition.

To overcome this problem, he advised eating balanced meals that contain good sources of protein, such as meat, eggs, or fish, along with practicing brisk walking for 10 to 20 minutes after lunch, as this plays a role in regulating glucose levels and reducing drowsiness.

He also recommended drinking a glass of water and eating a small amount of nuts, explaining that the healthy fats they contain provide a stable and slow source of energy that helps maintain activity during the daytime.

Chatterjee said that symptoms such as frequent fatigue, poor concentration, and nervousness may be early indicators of a metabolic disorder, stressing the importance of paying attention to these signs and not treating them as normal or transient.

He added that prediabetes is more widespread than many people think, and often develops without obvious symptoms, making monitoring daily health indicators essential for the early detection of any potential problems.
