German manager leaves decision on Kimmich's position to coach

German national team manager Rudi Voller has handed over the decision on Joshua Kimmich's position to coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Kimmich's current positioning has drawn controversy from some German fans, who believe the Bayern Munich player should be positioned in midfield rather than as a right-back.

However, Julian Nagelsmann decided to keep the German national team captain in his preferred position as a right-back during the three group stage matches of the 2026 World Cup.

"The debate about Kimmich's position has been going on for a long time, but the decision ultimately rests with Julian and the rest of the coaching staff," Voller was quoted as saying on the DFB website.

The German football legend believes that Kimmich is currently the standard for other German players because he is able to give his best performance whenever assigned to fill certain positions by the coach.
