Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives approved the naturalization application of soccer athletes Mitchell Lee Baker and Luke Anthony Vickery to become Indonesian citizens (WNI) submitted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
"Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives has decided to approve the recommendation to grant Indonesian citizenship to Mitchell Lee Baker and Luke Anthony Vickery," said Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Lalu Hadrian Irfani, while reading the conclusion of a working meeting regarding the consideration of granting Indonesian citizenship with Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir in Jakarta, Monday.
Approval for naturalization came with several caveats. Commission X emphasized that athlete naturalization must be carried out selectively, taking into account strategic needs, the commitment of the naturalized athlete, clear and transparent criteria, a long-term development and coaching program, support for player regeneration, and ongoing evaluation.
Commission X also urged the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the All-Indonesia Football Association to submit regular reports on the achievements of the naturalization program, the contributions of naturalized athletes, and their impact on the development and achievements of national football.
