Janice Tjen was eliminated in the first round of the 2026 Nottingham Open

Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen was eliminated in the first round of the 2026 Nottingham Open after losing to German tennis player Tatjana Maria in Nottingham, England, on Monday.

Janice, who was seeded ninth in the WTA 250 grasscourt event, was unable to ward off Maria's strong performance and was forced to surrender 3-6, 2-6, in one hour and two minutes.

WTA statistics show that Maria impressed, hitting seven aces in the first set. The WTA number 52 hit 87.5 percent of her first serves and won 85.7 percent of her first serves.

Janice tried to disrupt the 38-year-old's rhythm in the second set, winning 71 percent of her first-serve points.

However, Maria proved too strong for the 24-year-old  native. She served three aces, excelled in her return, and converted two of her three break point opportunities to win the match.
