More than 1,000 participants from various regions in Indonesia took part in the HGI Domino Tournament 2026 at the International Velodrome on Saturday, competing for a total prize of Rp200 million.
Chairman of the Indonesian Domino Sports Association (PORDI) Andi Jamaro Dulung said the enthusiasm of participants in the tournament, which was part of a series of events for Jakarta's 499th anniversary, showed the growing public acceptance of dominoes as a competitive mind sport.
"So far, more and more people have accepted dominoes as a competitive mind sport. This is evidenced by the high enthusiasm of participants from various regions in Indonesia in each competition," Andi said in a written statement received.
Besides being part of the series of events commemorating Jakarta's 499th anniversary, the two-day tournament was also the largest-scale domino tournament ever held.
The International Velodrome, which previously hosted the 2018 Asian Games, will for the first time host a mind sports competition with thousands of participants.
