Basketball player Kristaps Porzingis has agreed to a two-year, $40 million contract extension to remain with the Golden State Warriors.
The NBA website stated on Tuesday that the contract renewal will keep Porzingis with the Warriors through the 2027-2028 season.
The agreement also includes a player option for the second season of the contract, giving him the right to decide whether to continue the partnership until the end of the 2027-2028 season or enter the transfer market earlier.
In several mainstream media reports in the United States, the Warriors are retaining Porzingis as part of an effort to maintain strength in the frontcourt, after the Latvian basketball player made significant contributions to the team throughout the 2025-2026 season.
Standing at 2.21 meters tall, Porzingis is known as a modern center capable of posing a threat both in the paint and from beyond the three-point arc.
His ability to score points, grab rebounds, and protect the rim makes him a reliable player on both ends of the court.
The contract extension also provides certainty for the Warriors in compiling the team composition for the next few seasons, especially in maintaining a balance between senior players and reserve players.
The Warriors hope that continuing their partnership with Porzingis will help the team return to competing at the top of the Western Conference and become a strong contender for the NBA championship in the coming seasons.
