Singapore will step up enforcement against illegal gambling activities during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as authorities seek to curb illegal betting practices and raise public awareness about the risks of gambling addiction, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
The ministry said the heightened enforcement measures will run from June 11 to July 19, coinciding with the football tournament, which typically fuels increased interest in gambling activities.
The ministry said illegal gambling creates law and order issues and lacks the protections provided by licensed operators, leaving individuals and families vulnerable to potential financial losses and social impacts.
Under Singapore law, all gambling activities are prohibited unless they are licensed, permitted, or exempted.
Singapore Pools is the country's sole licensed operator for lottery, sports betting, and remote gambling services.
The Singapore Police Force will also conduct law enforcement operations against illegal gambling syndicates and those who assist them.
Local authorities have also taken steps to restrict access to illegal online gambling platforms and advertisements, deactivate local telephone numbers used to promote such services, and block related bank accounts and credit card payments.
