Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei announced on Thursday that he had agreed to an understanding with the United States to end the war in the Middle East, despite acknowledging that he had a “different point of view” regarding this course of action, without providing further details.
In a message broadcast on Iranian state television, Khamenei said his approval came in response to a commitment made by the Iranian president , in his capacity as head of the Supreme National Security Council, on his own behalf and on behalf of the other members, to protect the rights of the Iranian people and the resistance front.
In his first comment on the Iranian-American understanding, Khamenei stressed that the upcoming negotiations with Washington will be direct, but that they “do not mean accepting the enemy’s point of view,” explaining: “It is clear that the direct negotiations that will be held in the future will not mean accepting the enemy’s point of view.”
These statements come in light of the understanding announced between the two sides to end the war in the Middle East, amid continued differences of opinion regarding the interpretation of its outcomes and the limits of commitment to it.
