US Vice President JD Vance launched an attack on critics of the interim agreement with Iran within the Israeli government, calling on them to “realize the reality” and not attack Washington , and stressing that the United States remains Israel’s primary and strongest ally at the present stage.
Vance explained that President Donald Trump is “the only president in the world who sympathizes with Israel at this stage,” noting that a large part of Israel’s defense capabilities depend on American support and funding, and warning against holding Washington responsible for the challenges facing Tel Aviv.
In a related context, Vance said that Washington is moving towards starting technical talks with Iran that may begin early next week in Switzerland, with the possibility of him heading there at the end of this week to lead the American delegation in those negotiations, which are related to the interim agreement between the two countries, which aims to end the ongoing war between them.
Vance pointed out that part of the understandings includes rearranging the security situation in southern Lebanon so that the Lebanese government takes over security management there instead of Hezbollah, which would reduce tension with Israel.
He noted that the timing of the talks still depends on the presence of the Iranian delegation, pointing out that this process comes within a broader negotiating track after the US president signed an agreement with Tehran.
Reports also indicate that the White House forwarded a copy of the interim agreement to the US Congress immediately after it was signed, a move reflecting the transition of the issue to the legislative track within the United States.
Sources familiar with the matter said that Steve Wittkopf, President Trump's special envoy, told US lawmakers that Iran would invite the International Atomic Energy Agency to inspect nuclear sites after reaching an agreement with Washington.
