Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir emphasized that 21 priority sports branches of the National Sports Grand Design (DBON) must be competed in the PON in West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, and DKI as a buffer.
"Please ensure that Indonesia's leading sports, in accordance with the latest DBON (National Sports Grand Design), comprise 21 mandatory sports," said Erick Thohir in a press conference after holding a consolidation meeting with the three governors organizing the 2028 National Games.
The 21 DBON branches are the leading branches of the Olympics, namely athletics, gymnastics, aquatics, badminton, weightlifting, rock climbing, archery, football, shooting, judo, boxing, taekwondo, cycling, beach volleyball (2x2), basketball (3x3).
In addition, there are rowing (rowing and canoeing), tennis, fencing, wrestling, equestrian, as well as the world heritage branch which is a sport belonging to the Indonesian nation, namely pencak silat.
The Minister of Youth and Sports explained that the ministry he leads is currently remapping Indonesia's sporting achievements towards multi-sport events such as the SEA Games, Asian Games, and the Olympics.
Therefore, the preparation of athletes to excel in various international multi-sport events must be in line with the multi-sport event at the national level, namely the PON.
