Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly M. Hidayat Nur Wahid supports the implementation of the peace agreement between the United States and Iran and encourages all parties to consistently implement this commitment.
This is to prevent a global crisis and return the world's attention to efforts to end the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza.
In a written statement in Jakarta on Friday, Hidayat Nur Wahid said the peace initiative mediated by Pakistan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia deserves appreciation because it opens up opportunities to ease regional tensions that have the potential to affect global political and economic stability.
"We are certainly grateful and highly appreciate the initiatives taken by Pakistan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, which effectively moved to ensure the peace document could be approved and signed," he said.
According to him, the implementation of the agreement must be a shared concern so that it does not stop at just signing it.
He also hopes that all parties will actively monitor the implementation of the agreement according to the agreed stages.
Hidayat said that consistency among the parties in maintaining peace is necessary to prevent the world from the threat of a prolonged crisis, including the economic impacts resulting from disruptions to international energy trade routes.
"With the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, it is also important to immediately lower global oil prices, which are a significant burden on many countries, including Indonesia," he said.
He added that the easing of tensions between the United States and Iran should be a momentum to refocus international attention on resolving the conflict in Gaza and Palestine.
"Gaza/Palestine is not mentioned in the agreement, but it is important to remember that with the end of the US-Iran war, it is crucial that a peace agreement that ends the tragedy in Gaza/Palestine can be realized immediately," he said.
According to Hidayat, efforts to bring about comprehensive peace in the region must include protecting civilians, enforcing international law, and supporting just and sustainable conflict resolution.
He also encouraged Indonesia to continue playing a diplomatic role in accordance with the constitutional mandate in supporting world peace.
"The Indonesian government can also continue to play a vital role in its foreign policy to achieve world peace and Palestinian independence, while also remaining focused on addressing Indonesia's domestic problems," he said.
