United States National Team Profile, the host's big ambitions

 



  The United States (US) national team will play its 12th World Cup at home when they co-host the 2026 World Cup with Canada and Mexico, according to FIFA records cited.

Playing the World Cup as hosts for the second time after 1994, in this year's edition the US carries big ambitions, namely firstly to improve on their record in the last edition after ending in the round of 16.

Second, as hosts who will receive a lot of support from their fans, it is not impossible that the US will advance far in this four-yearly tournament, including surpassing their previous best record when they finished third in the inaugural World Cup in Uruguay in 1930.

At the 2026 World Cup, the seven-time Gold Cup winners are in Group D alongside Paraguay, Turkey and Australia, with their first match coming against Paraguay on June 13, about a day after the opening match in Mexico.

After that match, they will face Australia on June 20 and then close out against a team playing in just their third World Cup, Türkiye, on June 26.

Before the 2026 World Cup, the Stars & Stripes played a warm-up match, defeating Senegal 3-2 on Monday. Folarin Balogun scored the winning goal for the USA.

Next, they will close their pre-World Cup warm-up match against four-time world champions Germany  at Soldier Field, Chicago.
