Model Georgina Rodriguez, the fiancée of Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, has entered the fray in the crisis between Ronaldo and his national teammate Joao Neves with a sarcastic comment targeting Madalena Araújo, Neves' girlfriend.
These skirmishes on social media platforms come in the wake of Neves’ controversial remarks about Ronaldo after Portugal’s disappointing 1-1 draw against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the FIFA World Cup finals.
Neves said: "We all know what Cristiano has given us, the Portuguese national team, and the world of football, but at the moment he realizes, as we do, that he is no different from others."
He added: "He's another player on the team who helps the group, just like all the players do. He's here to contribute like all of us."
Angry fans had considered Neves' words to belittle Ronaldo or ignore his legendary history, even though the Paris Saint-Germain star acknowledged in his famous interview Ronaldo's contributions to Portuguese football.
Madalena Araújo was not spared from the consequences either, as her accounts were filled with offensive comments from fans of "El Don".
The incident dates back to an old post by Aragao on Instagram, in which she appears with Neves during the club season. A fan commented, criticizing Neves's inability to create opportunities for Ronaldo, saying: "Ask your friend to pass the ball to my GOAT."
Aragão did not respond to the comments, while a "fake" account bearing her name posted an offensive reply that included a reference to Ronaldo's retirement. This comment provoked Georgina Rodriguez, who responded sarcastically, saying: "Wow, this generation is really coming on strong!" She accompanied it with laughing emojis, in a clear indication of how much she disregards this type of discussion.
João Neves and Madalena Araão have been in a relationship for almost two years and often share photos of themselves together on social media. However, following a controversial interview attributed to Neves, Madalena's accounts were flooded with abusive comments.
Neves was not the only one to face criticism, as Bruno Fernandes also faced a wave of attacks from fans of the legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
