“You’re crazy… What the hell are you doing?” Axios: Trump rebukes Netanyahu over Lebanon

A media report stated that US President Donald Trump directed sharp criticism at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a phone call on Monday, against the backdrop of Israeli military operations in Lebanon.

According to Axios, citing US officials and a third source who had seen the call, Trump described Netanyahu as “crazy” and accused him of not showing gratitude for US support.

At one point during the call, Trump reportedly shouted, “What the hell are you doing?”

For its part, the White House did not immediately comment on what was stated in the report.

Earlier on Monday, Netanyahu had ordered the Israeli army to target Hezbollah positions in Beirut's southern suburbs, in a new escalation of tensions with Lebanon, despite a ceasefire agreement that began in November 2014.

These developments come amid ongoing clashes between Israel and Hezbollah since October 2023, despite previous de-escalation agreements.

In this context, Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, said that the Israeli strikes in Lebanon constitute a violation of the ceasefire agreement reached between Washington and Tehran on April 7.

Araghchi added in a post on the “X” platform that “any party’s violation of the agreement means its complete collapse,” holding the United States and Israel responsible for the repercussions.

After the call, which Trump later described as "productive," he said he asked Netanyahu not to carry out a major military operation inside Beirut, indicating that Israeli forces would not enter the Lebanese capital.

In contrast, Trump wrote on his “Truth Social” platform that he had spoken with “Hezbollah leaders,” and that the two sides had agreed to a ceasefire, expressing his hope that it would last “forever.”

But Netanyahu returned and confirmed via the “X” platform that he had informed Trump that Israel would continue to target “terrorist targets” in Beirut if Hezbollah did not stop attacking Israeli cities, stressing that the Israeli army would continue its operations in southern Lebanon according to the planned schemes.
