Ukrainian media, citing sources from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense (GUR), reported that Russia plans to send approximately 600 Chinese military personnel to local military facilities and bases this year for training on how to counter Western weapons.
According to the Kyiv Post, Chinese military personnel traveling to Russia will receive training on how to counter Western weapons, covering areas such as tank operation, artillery, engineering, and air defense. The report did not specify whether the trainees would join the Russian army in combat or whether it was merely an exchange program.
Sources say the Kremlin intends to allow Chinese military personnel to learn from and draw on the Russian military's combat experience in the Russo-Ukrainian war. This move also reflects Russia's intention to stand on the same side as China and jointly counter the West.
Chinese Foreign Ministry: We have no information on this matter.
At a press conference held by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday (26th), spokesperson Guo Jiakun was asked whether he could confirm the matter. He did not give a direct answer, only saying, "I have no information on this."
In April of this year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that intelligence indicated China was producing gunpowder and artillery shells in Russia, leading Ukraine to sanction three Chinese-registered companies. Last month, he also indicated that although China had suspended the supply of drones to Kyiv and other European countries, it continued to provide related equipment to Russia.
Furthermore, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte recently stated that given the long-term threat posed by Russia, China's massive military buildup, and the support from North Korea, China, and Iran for Russia's war in Ukraine, it is crucial for NATO to increase military spending. In response, Guo Jiakun stated that on the Ukraine issue, China has consistently adhered to promoting peace talks, actively pushing for a political solution to the crisis, never providing weapons to the belligerent parties, and strictly controlling the export of dual-use items.
He said that China's objective and impartial stance and constructive role have been widely recognized by the international community. NATO's false information cannot deceive the world. If NATO truly cares about the security of Europe and the world, it should stop fanning the flames and inciting confrontation.
