| Azerbaijan exports gas to Syria |
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced on Monday that his country has begun exporting gas to Syria, with the possibility of expanding to neighboring countries that have a great need for gas.
Aliyev said during the Shusha Media Forum that Azerbaijan transports gas via pipelines to 16 countries, ranking first globally in this indicator.
He also noted that Baku is in talks with European partners for long-term contracts and to expand the transport system.
The Azerbaijani president stressed that his country is a reliable partner and a predictable source, and that its regional role has become more important than it was ten years ago.
It should be noted that Azerbaijan began pumping natural gas to Syria via Turkish territory last August, using the Kilis-Aleppo pipeline, in a move aimed primarily at supporting the Syrian energy sector and increasing electricity production.
