Mohammed Al-Wahidi, the public relations director of the Egyptian Committee for the Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, was killed on Tuesday evening, as a result of an Israeli raid that targeted a civilian vehicle in the Al-Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City.

The Israeli attack on Al-Wahidi's march came about an hour before the start of the match between the Egyptian national team and Argentina in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

Local sources reported that the raid killed Al-Wahidi along with two other people, one of whom was a child, after targeting the car they were traveling in in Gaza City.

The raid came at a time when the Egyptian Committee for the Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip was organizing public screenings of the Egypt-Argentina match inside a number of shelters and displacement areas throughout the Strip, to give displaced families the opportunity to watch the match in a recreational atmosphere, before the scene turned into a state of sadness following the announcement of the killing of one of the most prominent officials of the committee.

Mohammed Fawaz Al-Wahidi is one of the prominent figures in the Egyptian Committee for the Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, where he assumed responsibility for managing public relations and media coordination for the activities of the committee, which plays an important role in implementing reconstruction projects and providing humanitarian and service support to the residents of the Strip.

Since the launch of the Egyptian initiative to rebuild Gaza, the Egyptian committee has continued to implement projects in the housing, infrastructure and basic services sectors, in addition to providing humanitarian and relief aid, as part of Egyptian efforts to support the Palestinians and alleviate the effects of the war.

Al-Wahidi’s killing comes amid continued Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, which, since the outbreak of the war, have resulted in thousands of casualties and widespread destruction of infrastructure and civilian facilities.

The targeting of an official of the Egyptian Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza has sparked widespread interest, especially as it coincided with public events organized by the committee to follow the Egyptian national team's match, at a time when Egyptian relief teams continue their work inside the sector despite the complex security and humanitarian conditions.
