The Arab League condemned the two terrorist bombings that targeted the Syrian capital Damascus, coinciding with the official visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Syria.

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy considered that the timing of the two attacks reveals an attempt to obstruct efforts to consolidate security and stability and to reintegrate Syria into its regional and international environment.

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy described the two bombings as a "cowardly act" aimed at undermining efforts to promote security and stability in Syria, thwarting international efforts to support economic recovery and reconstruction, and attracting more international engagement at this stage.

In an official statement, the Secretary-General affirmed the Arab League’s full solidarity with the Syrian state in its war against terrorism, stressing support for all efforts aimed at consolidating security and stability and preserving the unity and sovereignty of Syrian territory.

He pointed out that the Arab League continues its cooperation with the international community to address terrorist threats and dry up their sources, enabling the Syrian people and the peoples of the region to live in security, peace and stability, and creating the appropriate environment for the recovery and reconstruction phase.

The statement comes at a time when Damascus is witnessing an official visit by French President Emmanuel Macron, in a move that reflects growing international contacts with Syria, amid efforts to support stabilization and reconstruction efforts after years of conflict.

The two bombings coincided with the visit, which observers considered an attempt to send security and political messages aimed at undermining the international openness to Damascus and disrupting efforts to restore stability.

For more than a decade, Syria has faced complex security challenges as a result of the activity of terrorist organizations and the repercussions of the war. Despite the decline in the intensity of military operations in many areas, some armed groups still carry out sporadic attacks targeting civilians and vital facilities.

The Arab League has affirmed on more than one occasion that the success of the path to stability in Syria requires continuing to combat terrorism, preserving the unity of the state and its institutions, in parallel with strengthening Arab and international cooperation to support reconstruction and improve the humanitarian and economic conditions of the Syrian people.
