| Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Tour in African Countries |
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on an official visit, where he is scheduled to hold several meetings at the start of an African tour.
The construction of a major nuclear power plant on Ethiopian soil is expected to be one of the main topics of discussion, in a move that reflects Addis Ababa's desire to benefit from Russian expertise in this field.
The Ethiopian ambassador to Moscow, Genet Teshome Giru, had previously told RIA Novosti that his country expected to build the station within ten years with Russian participation.
These talks come at a time when Ethiopia is seeking to diversify its energy sources and secure its growing electricity needs, relying on Russian nuclear technology, which has extensive experience in building and operating nuclear power plants in several countries around the world.

The talks will also cover trade and investment, as the two ministers discussed the volume of trade between their countries and the potential for increasing the flow of goods and services during their meeting last year. Ethiopia views Russia as a key partner in economic development, and there is a clear interest on the Ethiopian side in attracting Russian investment.
According to previous announcements by the Ethiopian authorities, Addis Ababa is showing particular interest in cooperating with Russian companies in the areas of mineral deposit exploration and natural resource extraction, as well as in the metallurgical sector, which may be a focus of discussions during the visit.
Ethiopia is the first stop on Lavrov's African tour, which is expected to include other countries, as part of Russia's efforts to strengthen its presence on the continent and expand economic and trade cooperation, particularly in the energy, mining, and heavy industries sectors. This visit is especially significant given Moscow's attempts to break its Western isolation and build new strategic partnerships with countries in the Global South.
