Samsung Electronics plans to start up its first semiconductor manufacturing plant

Samsung Electronics plans to start up its first semiconductor manufacturing plant at the Yongin complex in 2029, two years ahead of schedule, to meet growing demand for artificial intelligence chips.

The accelerated timeline for the factory's opening coincides with the South Korean government's efforts to develop the national industrial complex in Yongin, a strategic project expected to become Samsung's main production center for the next generation of semiconductors.

According to sources, the company plans to operate the first factory in a complex of six factories it intends to build in the south of Seoul, with the aim of meeting the growing global demand for artificial intelligence chips.

An industry official said that the early operation of the factory will help Samsung meet the global market demand for artificial intelligence chips.

As part of its investment plan, Samsung announced last month its intention to invest approximately 2,030 trillion won in semiconductor complexes in Pyeongtaek and Yongin, in addition to 400 trillion won to establish two new chip factories in Gwangju.
