| Giza Pyramids is a historical archaeological area in Egypt |
Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris commented on press reports claiming that he plans to build a sports stadium in the Giza Pyramids area, where his company manages the area.
Sawiris wrote on his X platform account, commenting on the allegations: “This is completely false and was not said by me or any of the company’s representatives.”
Egyptian and foreign reports stated that Sawiris announced his intention to establish a sports stadium and concert area on the Giza Pyramids plateau, with investments reaching $10 million as part of its development project, with the aim of transforming it into an integrated destination that receives visitors throughout the year and hosts cultural, sporting and international concert events.
Orascom Pyramids, owned by Sawiris, is implementing the Pyramids development project and is managing the historical archaeological area in cooperation with the Egyptian government.
Sawiris, who has already invested $100 million in developing the area, previously expressed his ambition to double the annual number of visitors to 5 million instead of the current 2.5 million, by improving the tourist experience and making it more attractive.
The pilot operation of the new Pyramids Plateau project began in 2023. The work included improving the flow of movement within the archaeological site, providing dedicated parking spaces for tourist buses and cars, and creating facilities equipped for people with disabilities to ensure a comfortable experience for all visitors. Modern services were also introduced, such as electronic tourist information points, souvenir shops, and areas for cafes and restaurants according to international standards.
