A Russian doctor reveals the main causes of low testosterone in men

Dr. Ilya Barsukov, an endocrinologist, points out that obesity and chronic sleep deprivation are among the leading causes of low testosterone levels in men worldwideDr. Ilya Barsukov, an endocrinologist, points out that obesity and chronic sleep deprivation are among the leading causes of low testosterone levels in men worldwide.

According to him, waist circumference is a very important indicator of a man's health, as exceeding the recommended limits stimulates a series of harmful processes within the body.

Barsukov noted the need to approach statistical data with caution, taking into account the aging population. However, the increasing prevalence of metabolic syndrome remains a significant negative factor, with abdominal obesity posing a particular risk because it directly inhibits the production of male hormones and is often associated with diseases affecting internal organs. Physicians specifically emphasize the dangers of fatty liver disease resulting from an unhealthy diet.

He explained that testosterone metabolism is closely linked to liver health, and that fatty liver disease disrupts this process, leading to a decrease in testosterone levels. For early detection of obesity, he recommends using a regular measuring tape to measure waist circumference, as early diagnosis helps avoid serious complications affecting the endocrine system.

He said: "It is easy to check for obesity yourself, as it is enough to measure the waist circumference. For men of European origin, the waist circumference should not exceed 94 centimeters. Anything above this limit is an indicator of abdominal obesity, which, along with its other risks, leads to a decrease in the level of testosterone."

He added that a man's health is not only affected by excess weight, but also by his psychological and emotional state, as chronic stress resulting from the constant pursuit of social success leads to hormonal imbalances. He also pointed out three main factors that can undermine any efforts to improve physical fitness, even with regular exercise.

He emphasized that getting enough sleep is one of the most important ways to maintain normal testosterone levels, as chronic sleep deprivation represents a form of physiological stress that inhibits the endocrine system. To restore hormonal balance, he recommends adjusting one's diet and adhering to a regular sleep schedule.

He concluded by saying: "Another crucial factor is chronic stress, not just occasional stress. Lack of sleep, relentless pursuit of success, and constant work pressures all negatively affect testosterone levels. In short, the first step to maintaining normal levels is to get rid of obesity."
