The first leg of the final of the Brazilian state of Bahia Youth Championship (under 20) witnessed a strange and exciting incident, after swarms of bees invaded the field, causing a dramatic stoppage of the match.
The unexpected incident occurred in the 11th minute of the match held yesterday, Saturday, at the "Guia da Princesa" stadium in the city of Feira de Santana, when huge swarms of bees invaded the stadium, forcing the referee to stop the match immediately.
The players of both teams, along with members of the technical and administrative staff and the referees, were forced to lie flat on the ground in an attempt to avoid the bee stings.
As the threat of swarms persisted, everyone left the green rectangle.
To control the situation, the stadium management activated the water sprinkler system to disperse the bees, which was successful, and the match resumed after a stoppage of about 10 minutes after ensuring that the atmosphere was safe.
The match ended with a resounding victory for Bahia, with eight goals to nil.
