Palestinian footballer Fadi Naasan, 17, died on Saturday, a week after being shot during an attack by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, officials and relatives said.
Dozens of mourners, some dressed in black, carried the body of the player from Al-Mughair Club and the Palestinian youth national team, from the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah to his village for burial.
The Palestinian Football Association accused Israeli forces of shooting Na’asan during an attack by settlers on the village of Al-Mughayyir on July 11.
The Israeli military did not respond to AFP's request for comment on Saturday.
His father, Hamdallah Al-Naasan, told the agency that his son loved football.
He added: "When the settlers attacked, he heard the screams of the girls and women, so he went to the site of the attack and was killed."
His mother, Hanan, said that her son "was a good student in school, and he was good at sports and played football. He was loved by the people," adding, "I ask God to accept him as a martyr."
The official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported details of the incident in which al-Naasan was hit by an explosive bullet in the thigh, resulting in the amputation of his leg. It also noted that others were injured by rubber bullets fired by Israeli forces, and that a ten-year-old child was hit in the head by a stun grenade.
