The US military announced the end of its latest strikes against Iran after targeting more than 80 targets, warning Tehran that it would hold it "responsible" for what it described as any further violations of the interim agreement between the two countries.

The US military added that it remains "in a state of readiness and preparedness to hold Iran accountable if the agreement is not adhered to or complied with."

The US military launched a series of powerful strikes against Iran "to inflict heavy losses on it for targeting and attacking commercial vessels piloted by innocent civilians in an international waterway... These strikes come in response to Iranian attacks targeting three commercial vessels that were crossing the Strait of Hormuz."

For its part, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that it had targeted 85 American military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait in response to the violation of the ceasefire.

The Revolutionary Guard said in a statement: "In an initial response to the American aggression, the naval and aerospace forces of the Revolutionary Guard, in a joint operation with missiles and drones, carried out strikes targeting 85 sites of American military installations in Mina Salman, the Fifth Naval Region in Bahrain, and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. They also shot down an enemy MQ-9 drone that intended to interfere in the operation."

Missile warning sirens sounded in the Kingdom of Bahrain following the US strikes on Iran, while the Kuwaiti Army General Staff announced that air defenses had intercepted hostile projectiles, including missiles and drones.

The Strait of Hormuz region has witnessed, from time to time, security tensions against the backdrop of the war that the United States and Israel started against Iran on February 28.

On June 18, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding and are continuing difficult negotiations to reach a final agreement, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar.
