Indonesian House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani said Indonesia and India have a shared responsibility to maintain regional stability.
This statement was delivered by Puan Maharani in her speech while receiving a state visit from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the DPR Building.
"At a time when the world is marked by increasing great power rivalry, supply chain disruptions, food and energy crises, and the impacts of climate change, Indonesia and India have a shared responsibility to maintain regional stability and strengthen development cooperation," he said.
According to Puan, amidst increasing global geopolitical and geoeconomic turmoil, the state must be present to safeguard national sovereignty and interests, while ensuring that development brings justice and prosperity to the people.
He believes that cooperation between nations and countries must continue to be strengthened to create a better, more peaceful, and more inclusive world order.
"Therefore, the Indonesian House of Representatives believes that close synergy between the legislative and executive branches is crucial for strengthening cooperation between countries amidst global dynamics," he added.
Puan added that parliamentary diplomacy not only complements government diplomacy but also expands the space for dialogue, builds mutual understanding, strengthens trust, and encourages political support.
Puan expressed her appreciation for the Indian parliament's establishment of the India-Indonesia Parliamentary Friendship Group in February 2026.
The group is expected to work closely with the Indonesian House of Representatives-Indian Parliament Bilateral Cooperation Group established in January 2025.
PM Modi visited the Indonesian parliament building on the sidelines of his state visit to Jakarta. He also delivered a speech to members of the Indonesian parliament.
The event was attended by President Prabowo Subianto, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Chairman of the MPR RI Ahmad Muzani, Chairman of the DPD RI Sultan B. Najamudin, and members of the Red and White Cabinet.
