Ligue 1 club AS Monaco has officially appointed former Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Brazil defender Filipe Luis as its new head coach, replacing Sebastien Pocognoli.
The 40-year-old coach is starting his first coaching adventure in Europe after leaving Brazilian club Flamengo.
"We are delighted to announce that the 40-year-old Brazilian coach begins a new chapter today as head coach of AS Monaco's first team. He has signed a contract until June 2028," the club said in a statement.
Filipe Luis is no stranger to the world of football. During his playing days, he made 44 appearances for the Brazilian national team between 2009 and 2019.
He also won the Premier League title with Chelsea in the 2014/15 season and the LaLiga title with Atletico Madrid in the 2013/14 season. His coaching career began with Flamengo's U20 team before being promoted to the first team in September 2024.
Under his guidance, Flamengo won the 2025 Copa Libertadores after defeating fellow Brazilian club Palmeiras in the final.
Despite winning the continental title, Filipe Luis was sacked by Flamengo last March.
