Persebaya Surabaya has signed Cape Verdean center-back Yuran Fernandes on a three-season contract to strengthen its defense for the 2026/2027 Super League season, while also loaning Gali Freitas to Madura United.
"I'm very happy to be joining Persebaya. This is a great opportunity for me to take on a new challenge in my career," Yuran said in a statement in Surabaya, East Java.
The 31-year-old was introduced as part of the Green Force squad and is projected to be a pillar in Persebaya's back line for the long term.
Yuran explained that his move to Persebaya was driven by a desire to seek new experiences after four years at the same club, namely PSM Makassar.
"One of the main reasons I came to Persebaya was because I wanted to experience new challenges and new experiences," he said.
He emphasized his readiness to give his best to help Persebaya achieve maximum results and compete at the top of the Super League in the 2026/2027 season.
"My personal goal is to give my best and help the team achieve maximum results," he said.
Before joining Persebaya, Yuran played for PSM Makassar and was a key member of the Juku Eja defense when they won the 2022/2023 Indonesian League 1 title.
Last season, Yuran scored five goals and one assist in 26 appearances for PSM, making him one of the most prolific defenders in the competition.
