The Belgian Football Association (RBFA) has lodged a protest against the FIFA Disciplinary Committee's decision to suspend the one-match ban imposed on United States (US) striker Folarin Balogun.
The decision means Balogun will still be available for the hosts to face Belgium in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup at Lumen Field in Seattle.
" The RBFA is surprised by FIFA's decision to declare United States player Folarin Balogun eligible to play in the United States vs. Belgium match on Monday, July 6, at 5:00 p.m. Seattle time," the federation said in a statement on its official website.
The RBFA considers FIFA's decision to be in conflict with Article 66.4 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, which explicitly states that a red card automatically results in a one-match suspension.
According to the federation, the rule has been applied consistently to all red cards issued throughout the 2026 World Cup.
