Supporters of the Brazilian and Norwegian national teams flocked to the free cold mineral water and air conditioning available at several points at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, United States, on Sunday, ahead of the 2026 World Cup round of 16 match.
Fans felt the need to rehydrate after walking a considerable distance to the stadium. Some even had to walk approximately two kilometers.
This is inseparable from the local police policy of closing several roads leading to the stadium to avoid long traffic jams.
According to one of the medical team at MetLife, Gary Garetano, the organizers provided thousands of free bottles of mineral water for the spectators at the stadium.
Gary said the policy was implemented because of the hot temperatures around the stadium, which reached 29 degrees Celsius.
"That's a preventative measure to prevent dehydration," he said.
