Ronaldo announces 2026 World Cup will be his final appearance

Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has announced that the 2026 World Cup will be his final appearance at the world's biggest football event.

The Portuguese national team captain made this assurance ahead of the round of 16 match against Spain, which will take place.

"I want to enjoy this tournament as much as possible because it will be my last World Cup. But I hope tomorrow won't be my last match at the World Cup," Ronaldo said, as reported by One Football.

The 41-year-old ended speculation about his future after being asked to speak to the media. Despite acknowledging his age, Ronaldo emphasized that his commitment to Portugal remains unchanged, whether he plays or not.

"I've always been wholeheartedly committed to helping the national team. Whether I play or not, I'll always have an important role," he said.

Ronaldo also emphasized that the decision to retire was entirely his own. He stated that discussions about ending his career were irrelevant while Portugal was competing in the World Cup.

"There's no point in continuing to ask that question. The most important thing is tomorrow's match," he stressed.
